Privacy Policy

MarginGuard (“we”, “us”) provides a Shopify app and related tools that alert merchants when a tariff or duty rate change pushes one of their products below their target margin. This policy explains what data we handle and why. We keep it deliberately small: MarginGuard is advisory and reads more than it stores.

What we collect

• Store & catalog data — from the Shopify Admin API, with your permission: your store domain, and for each product variant its title, SKU, price, HS (harmonized system) code, country of origin, and unit cost. These are used only to compute your duty exposure.
• Contact email — your store’s email address, used solely to send you tariff alerts and account notices.
• Scanner input — if you use the free public scanner, the store URL or CSV you submit, plus the assumptions you enter (country, category, cost, target margin). We log anonymous, aggregate scan counts to measure the tool; we do not sell or share this.

What we do NOT collect

MarginGuard does not access, store, or process your customers’ personal data — no customer names, addresses, emails, or order details. We request only the read_products and read_inventory scopes. We never edit your catalog or prices.

How we use it

• To resolve the current import duty for each SKU (USITC HTS base duty plus Section 301/232/122 adders) and flag products below your target margin.
• To email you when a rate change affects your margins, with the recommended price to recover.
• To operate, secure, and improve the service.

Sharing & subprocessors

We do not sell your data. We use a small set of infrastructure providers strictly to run the service: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Shopify (the platform and billing), the USITC HTS API (public tariff data lookups), and Resend (sending alert emails). Each processes data only to provide its function.

Retention & deletion

We keep your catalog and exposure data only while the app is installed. When you uninstall, Shopify notifies us and we delete your store’s data; we also honor Shopify’s mandatory shop/redact request (sent ~48 hours after uninstall). You can request deletion at any time by emailing us.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and you may withdraw consent by uninstalling the app. We respond to Shopify’s GDPR/CCPA compliance webhooks (customers/data_request, customers/redact, shop/redact) as required.

MarginGuard provides estimates for informational purposes, combining public tariff data with your inputs. It is not customs, legal, or tax advice; verify rates with your customs broker before repricing.
